“Class focuses on improv exercise:
The Carlsbad Senior Center is offering a six-week class, “Improv Your Life,” from 10:30 a.m. to noon Thursdays, beginning Jan. 30, at 799 Pine Ave. The classes cover the basics of improvisational exercise. Lunar New Year Celebration for kids:
The city of Carlsbad will put on a Lunar New Year Celebration at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Carlsbad City Library Learning Center, 3368 Eureka Place. Admission is free. Celebrate the Year of the Rat with stories and crafts. The event is open to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Call (760) 931-4500.
St. Patrick school holds open house:
St. Patrick Catholic School in Carlsbad will host an open house from 10 to 11 a.m. Sunday at 3820 Pio Pico Drive. The school, which serves students in grades K-8, will open its doors to the public in celebration of National Catholic Schools Week. The event is free and open to all families. Attendees can also attend the 9 a.m. Mass at St. Patrick Parish prior to the event. Visit stpaddys.org.
Poker tournament benefits school band:
The Carlsbad High School Band Boosters will hold a Texas Hold ’Em Poker Tournament from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday to benefit the Carlsbad High School Marching Lancers. The event will be held at the San Diego Music Studio, 423 S. Las Posas Road in San Marcos. Admission costs $25, which includes food and two beverage tickets; buy-in for the poker table is $50.
